RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles and Practices of Horticulture


The RHS Level 2 Certificate in the Principles and Practices of Horticulture is studied both by interested gardeners who just wish to learn more and those wanting a route to employment in professional horticulture or further development.

The Level 2 Certificate in the Principles and Practices of Horticulture consists of two individual certificates, one practical and one theory:

  • RHS Level 2 Certificate in Practical Horticulture
  • RHS Level 2 Principles of Plant Growth and Development

Both certificates (subject to re-approval by the RHS) are offered at Ness in one combined course, enabling understand the underlying combination of scientific principles which underpin horticultural practices and develop their practical skills.

Students will study a range of topics from plant identification, soils and propgation through to planting styles and plant care and to gain the qulaifications undertaken practical and written assessments set by the RHS.

Dates & times

A one-day course 9.30-4pm beginning Wednesday 28 September 2022 taught across 30 weeks and 2-3 Saturdays (dates tbc).

What does it cost?

Course fees: £700.
Assessment fees: £400.

Students may either pay the full fees on accepting their place or pay a non-refundable deposit of £100 and then pay the outstanding balance in instalments.

Who is it suitable for?

18 yrs+ Anyone with keen interest in plants and gardens with gardening experience and/or have completed some of our level 1 programme (or equivalent). It is not suitable for beginners.
