Personal Statement

Head of Composition - experience with performance of compositions in this country and abroad. Teaching and research interests largely overlap. Experience in teaching and examining at all levels. Considerable experience of arts funding and cultural practice issues through continuing links to outside professional arts bodies. Experience in organising conferences, concerts, festivals and similar public events, both under the aegis of the university and outside. Responsible for major new music festival Upbeat to the Tate 88 in 1988 (with close cooperation with RLPS, national and international funding bodies). Also (1990s) Artistic Director of The Electric Concerts (NW-based concert series centreing on electroacoustic music). Involved in various individual and collective projects for 2008 Capital of Culture. Involved (1980s-90s) in EU ERASMUS international exchange/cooperation programmes between various EU countries. Resident composer/performer (1985) in Wollongong/Sydney, Australia. Have acted as consultant and adviser to Arts Council of Great Britain and other arts bodies.
