Personal Statement

Dr Andrew Simmons joined the University of Liverpool in January 2021 as the Lecturer in Film Music Composition. He previously lectured at the University of Bedfordshire and continues to act as a visiting specialist on the Composition for Screen postgraduate programme at the Royal College of Music.

Andrew recently completed his PhD at City, University of London with a thesis entitled ‘Morphology of the Score: The Organisation of Music in the Films of Michael Giacchino and Pixar Animation Studios’. The project was supervised by Prof Miguel Mera and Dr Shay Loya. Andrew’s research focuses on the placement of music in film and methods of film music analysis.

Andrew’s compositions and guitar playing can be heard in advertising campaigns by the likes of Cadbury’s, Toyota, Nintendo, Müller, and Heineken; on award-winning comedy podcast My Dad Wrote a Porno; and in television shows such as Unraveling the Mystery: A Big Bang Farewell, Ian Hislop's Fake News: A True History, The Late Late Show with James Corden, BBC's The One Show, The Repair Shop, and Bargain Hunt, Netflix's 13 Reasons Why and LEGO Friends, and many more.
