The Department of Music is delighted to announce the appointment of the Solem Quartet as Quartet-in-Residence for 2016-17.

The Solem Quartet formed in 2011 and went on to win the prestigious 2014 Royal Overseas League Ensemble Competition. In 2015 they were on the concert platform over 40 times in the UK and Europe and made an appearance on BBC Radio 3’s programme ‘In Tune’. They have recently been selected as artists for Live Music Now, a UK-wide initiative founded by Sir Yehudi Menhuin and Ian Stoutzker that provides training and opportunities for musicians to perform in community settings and on the concert platform.

At the University, quartet members Amy Tress and Catherine Landen (violins), Alistair Vennart (viola), and Stephanie Tress (cello) will be working with undergraduate and postgraduate students and staff on a variety of performance, composition and research projects. They follow in the footsteps of the now internationally renowned Chilingirian Quartet who were resident quartet at the University of Liverpool between 1973 and 1976.

The Solem Quartet will perform two Lunchtime Concerts this year.
