Call for Merseyside community music organisations to apply for Tung Auditorium affiliate status

The University of Liverpool is inviting community music organisations across Merseyside to apply for affiliate status in the brand new, state-of-the-art Tung Auditorium, situated in the new Yoko Ono Lennon Centre on campus.
Dr Helen Thomas, in the University's Department of Music, said: "We are looking for community music organisations that can develop and prosper in the new space.
"Affiliate organisations will be offered up to three, weekend, public concerts per annum on a box office split deal. They will benefit from a unique package that includes house lighting, stage furniture, backstage facilities, Front of House staffing, and a full marketing package.
"There isn't another venue of this size and capability in the region so, for the right organisations, this offers an exciting opportunity for high-quality music-making.
"In return, we are looking for organisations that can offer imaginative ideas to campus.
"These might include contributions to learning and teaching and research that enhance the student experience on campus, and help to engage the local community."
The Tung Auditorium is designed as an acoustically optimised, flexible music performance space, capable of facilitating chamber music, vocal groups, electro-acoustic and multi-media work, or up to a 70-piece orchestra.
It is due to launch in March 2022.
The Tung affiliate scheme chimes with the University's civic engagement mission and its substantial and diverse contribution to the region’s economy, public health, employment, innovation and culture and heritage.
Applications are open through a process of competitive tendering in the opening season/year, and must be received by noon on 6 September 2021.
Shortlisted organisations will be invited to tour the Tung Auditorium in the early Autumn.
