Jamie Kenny comes from a family of musicians, storytellers and tweed weavers hailing from County Donegal. He initially started learning the piano with his Mum, which was a disaster, before a brief stint on the violin and then going on to learn the double bass at the City of Edinburgh Music School. He is a graduate of the Royal College of Music where he studied with Thomas Martin, and the Royal Academy of Music where he studied with Duncan McTier, Dominic Seldis and Graham Mitchell.

Jamie also spent a year in Manchester as part of the Hallé String Scheme, was Principal of Lorin Maazel's Castleton Festival in America, toured extensively with the Gustav Mahler Jugendorchester and furthered his studies with Joel Quarrington at the Orford Musique Academie in Canada. 

Alongside his position as Associate Principal Double Bass with the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Jamie enjoys giving solo and chamber music recitals as well as working with orchestras such as the London Philharmonic Orchestra, London Symphony Orchestra, Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, Philharmonia, English National Opera and the John Wilson Orchestra. He has also played as Guest Principal with the BBC National Orchestra of Wales, BBC Philharmonic and BBC Symphony Orchestra.
