Why Unku Wasn’t Forgotten – SWR2

Inspired by Michael Weisfeld’s visit to the exhibition in Bremen, this podcast focuses on the life of Erna Lauenburger, known as Unku, who features in the exhibition. Unku was the protagonist of the 1931 Grete Weiskopf novel, Ede und Unku, which was compulsory school reading in East Germany.

Weisfeld follows the true story of Unku’s life, focusing on the dramatisation of her story by Dessau school pupils. - German
