About the event

The London Basque Society, in collaboration with the Basque Studies group of the Department of Modern Languages and Cultures at the University of Liverpool, honour Transgender Day of Remembrance 2020 with a film screening followed by discussion.

Join the UK premiere of the award winning short film “Mi Pequeño Gran Samurai” (2019), a moving documentary in the memory of Ekai Lersundi, a 16 year-old trans boy from the Basque Country who tragically lost his life while on the waiting list for medical support to transition. The film is narrated through the eyes of family, friends, and fellow activists, and follows the overwhelming community response to Ekai’s story, its aftermath and impact. The screening will be followed by a discussion with Ekai’s family members as well as members of the local trans activist community sharing their experiences, solidarities, challenges, and vision for the future.

Please note this is an event to commemorate and empower the lives of trans/non-binary people, and care will be taken to maintain this virtual event as a safe, respectful, and welcoming space for them. Book now via Eventbrite.
