Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust is one of the largest trusts providing physical health and mental health services in the North West, serving more than 1.4 million people across the region. Mersey Care offer specialist inpatient and community services as well as learning disability, addiction and brain injury services. Mersey Care is one of only three trusts in the UK that offer high secure mental health facilities. On 1st June 2021, Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust acquired North West Boroughs Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust (NWBH), which also provided placements for Liverpool medical students. Services in NWBH covered the areas of St Helens and Knowsley, Warrington and Halton and as a result of this acquisition, NWBH became known as Mid-Mersey.

Mersey Care NHS Foundation Trust delivers the four-week Psychiatry A placement in year 4 of the MBChB curriculum, two days of child and adolescent mental health (CAMHS) as part of the year 4 Paediatrics B placement and one week in acute psychiatry as part of the four-week Core Skills placement in year 5.
