About

The research of the Fundamental Particle Physics group centres on theoretical studies of the elementary particles of Nature such as the structure of protons and neutrons as well as developing testable theories for the physics which lies beyond the Standard Model of particle physics.

The central tool for these theoretical investigations is Quantum Field Theory and in particular perturbation theory and lattice field theory. Our activities are aligned with high energy particle colliders such as the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) at CERN in Geneva as well as other experiments around the globe.

Our lattice field theory team uses supercomputers to study the physics of the quarks and gluons which are the component fields of hadrons such as protons and neutrons. The actual mechanism which achieves the binding is the strong force and described by the quantum field theory known as Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD).

Detailed information on the research interests of individual academic staff and their recent publications is available from their individual home page.
