Theme 1 - Multi-scale systems in healthcare problems

Theme 1 - Multi-scale systems in healthcare problems

Maths Lead: Prof A B Movchan Health & Life Sciences Lead: Dr S Webb

The theme aims to develop new/improved approaches to modelling systems that span multiple temporal and/or spatial scales

genes → cells → tissues →organs → whole body/individual → population.

Though multiscale approaches may have broad relevance across the Healthcare Technologies,  we focus on three projects.

Project 1. Fatigue damage for stents in blood vessels

Academic Team: Prof A B Movchan (UoL), Mr A England (Salford), Dr D Colquitt (UoL)

Clinical/Industrial Team:  LivVES (Royal RLBUHT) and Dudley Group NHS

Project 2. Predictions of drug toxicity

Academic Team: Dr R Bearon (UoL), Dr S Webb (LJMU), Dr V See (UoL), Dr M Domijan (UoL), Dr J J Wu (Durham)

Clinical/Industrial Team: AstraZeneca, Walton Centre

Project 3. Multi-scale modelling of a human eye

Academic Team: Prof A Elsheikh (UoL), Prof N V Movchan (UoL), Dr P Pankaj (Edinburgh)

Clinical/Industrial Team:  RLBUHT, Ultravision
