EPSRC CASE Award 2014

The Centre for Mathematical Imaging Techniques (CMIT) at the Department of Mathematical Sciences of the University of Liverpool invites applications for EPSRC CASE studentship research leading to a PhD, starting 1 October 2014 (or before 30 September 2015).

The award is primarily available to students resident in the UK/EU and will pay full tuition fees and a maintenance grant for 3.5 years. As a CASE award, the mathematical project has an element of industrial applications and the maintenance grant will be at least in 16863 GBP for 2014/15 (higher than a normal EPSRC DTG of 13863 GBP), with rises anticipated in future years.

Applicants should hold or expect to gain a First Class MSc / M. Math Degree (with minimum of a II:1) or equivalent in Mathematics.

The successful candidate will join the CMIT centre (www.liv.ac.uk/cmit) and work on the KTN awarded project Automatic CT Segmentation of the Lungs for Diagnostics and Treatment Monitoring of Lung Diseases, supervised by Prof K Chen (the academic supervisor) and Dr K Irion (the industrial supervisor). Knowledge of optimization, calculus of variations, PDEs and Matlab programming will be an advantage but is not crucial as training will be given.

Apply Online or from http://www.liv.ac.uk/mathematical-sciences/postgraduate/phd-research/

The deadline for receiving applications is 23 May 2014. Applicants will be contacted and invited to visit (or via Skype) to discuss their application.
