A University of Liverpool Lecturer has successfully reached the Semi-Finals of BBC’s Mastermind.

Professor Ian Jack from the Department of Mathematical Sciences finished with a top score of 23 points after being tested by presenter John Humphreys on his specialist subject - Lawrence Durrell's Alexandria Quartet.

The episode is now available to view on BBC iPlayer at: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b09dcxdk/mastermind-2017-episode-17

Ian commented on his unique experience sitting in the famous Mastermind chair:

“Although I look terrified it was actually a pleasant experience. Once the spotlight’s on you, all you see is John Humphreys and you’ve seen him so often you feel that you know him.

"All the same, any thoughts of making sensible guesses go out of the window with the clock ticking away; and I’m still kicking myself for forgetting the name of the Man from UNCLE.”

The BBC will announce the broadcast date for the Semi-Final in the near future.
