Materials Innovation Factory wins `Development of the Year'

The University’s Materials Innovation Factory has won `Development of the Year’ at the NW Business Insider's Liverpool City Region Property Awards which took place last night.
Judges said that the Materials Innovation Factory “is exactly the sort of thing the Liverpool economy needs to continue its strong growth”.
The £68M facility, which is due to be officially opened later this year, represents a unique public-private partnership between Unilever and the University of Liverpool supported by the Higher Education Funding Council for England, as part of the UK Government’s Research Partnership Investment Fund.
The facility will revolutionise materials chemistry research and development by drawing together world-leading, multi-disciplinary research expertise, unparalleled technical facilities and a dynamic support infrastructure.
The Liverpool City Region Property Awards recognise the schemes and developers who are transforming the region. The awards were made at a glittering ceremony held at the Titanic Hotel and featured newly elected metro mayor Steve Rotheram as the keynote speaker. The `Development of the Year’ award was sponsored by Crossfield Construction.
In another category, the Royal College of Physicians occupancy at the Knowledge Quarter was awarded `Property Deal of the Year’. According to the judges, this deal which brought Royal College of Physicians to set up its Northern office in the Knowledge Quarter was “hugely significant in giving a unique brand and purpose to the Knowledge Quarter”.
