What were you doing before you began MSc study?
I graduated with a BSc Honours Degree in Economics and Finance and was awarded a place on the Dean’s Honour List for securing a position amongst the top 10% of my batch. Shortly after graduating, I started work as a financial analyst in an investment firm. After joining the ranks of the employed, my interest in the field of finance significantly evolved and I decided to pursue further studies to enhance the skills I had acquired during my employment.
Why did you choose to study at the University of Liverpool Management School?
I applied to 10 top UK universities, 5 of which are part of the Russell Group, and got accepted in all of them. But my final decision was the University of Liverpool mainly because the Management School is AACSB accredited thereby automatically creating an advantage for its graduates in the job market. Also the MSc Finance degree offered by the School is internationally recognised and offers the same opportunities to students belonging to different backgrounds.
Did you receive a scholarship?
I was amongst the lucky few who received the ULMS Future Leaders Masters Scholarship. It was an absolute honour for me that my application was automatically considered for the scholarship and I was successful in receiving it.
Which aspects of the MSc course do you think will be most beneficial to your career development?
The structure of the MSc Finance course has been designed expertly. It offers modules that are most relevant for any finance student aspiring to be an industry professional. The modules are designed not only to provide theoretical knowledge but we are also being taught its practical implementation. The Bloomberg software being offered in the McKenzie Trading Suite is a service that will benefit every finance student, as the Bloomberg Market Concepts certification will add great value to the CV. The module leaders are all highly professional and the best in their respective fields and they constantly encourage metacognitive learning. Also I believe the MSc ExECS Award introduced by the Management School will greatly contribute to my career development as it provides skills enhancement sessions and networking opportunities that are essential for any graduate.
What have you enjoyed most about living in Liverpool?
Liverpool is a vibrant city, which is rich both culturally and historically. The city has so much to offer and it never disappoints. It’s always a delight to plan a day out with friends and spend time near the Albert Docks, take a stroll around Sefton Park, visit one of many museums that the city offers, watch a football match at Anfield or just grab a bite from your favourite restaurant in the city centre. The people here are extremely friendly and helpful and I have been lucky enough to make amazing friends and get to learn about different cultures. I believe that’s the best thing about this city, no matter where you come from in the world, you’ll feel at home here in Liverpool.
