What were you doing before you began MSc study?
I completed my undergraduate degree in International Tourism Management at UCLan University. During that degree I was able to participate in a study abroad year in Cyprus and an internship year working in Rooms Division for Marriott Hotels in Orlando, Florida. During the final year of my undergraduate degree and throughout my MSc so far, I have been working as a Tour Guide for Liverpool F.C.. This job has made me want to pursue a sports degreeto enable me to combine my love for travel and sports to ultimately allow me to find my dream job within the industry.
Why did you choose to study at the University of Liverpool Management School?
I chose to do my MSc at the Management school as it offers me Sports specific classes and generic business modules along with it being a Russel Group Member. This provides everyone with a greater understanding of the wider business world, especially as everyone comes from different undergraduate degrees. Also, I chose to study at the Management School due to the wide verity of assignment including group presentations / posters, exams and essays. Another great reason for choosing the programme is the international aspects to the students on the course, therefore allowing one to learn about other cultures during the degree.
Did you receive a scholarship?
Yes, I was lucky enough to be awarded the University of Liverpools Management Schools Futures Leaders Scholarship which covers my full degree costs.
Which aspects of the MSc course do you think will be most beneficial to your career development?
Each module on the course has its own benefits for my future career, from learning about how to be a great leader and the basics of finance to sports operations and analytics. The lectures also include a number of guest speakers from all aspects of the sporting industry, this allows us to get first hand knowledge of those who work or have competed within the industry, along with providing us a chance to network. Also, beneficial to the course are the site visit to sports venues to learn from them directly.
What have you enjoyed most about living in Liverpool?
Liverpool is a great city that has lots to offer for everyone. With lots of students around one is never far from a good place to shop, eat, drink and socialise. The city has a number of major events throughout the year that I have been able to experience from Christmas Markets to Chinese New Year celebrations. Also, I have enjoyed the cities love for Football and how it allows one to immerse oneself into the culture, with games on every weekend throughout the season from Premier League to Non League games (just outside the city) there are plenty of opportunities to see live games too.
