Personal Statement

Dr. Eric K.H. Leung is an Associate Professor (Senior Lecturer) of Digital Business & Data Analytics at the University of Liverpool Management School. Prior to joining the ULMS, he was a Post-doctoral Research Fellow at the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering, The University of Hong Kong.

Eric obtained his PhD from The Hong Kong Polytechnic University, which was funded by the Innovation and Technology Commission of Hong Kong. During his PhD, he successfully developed an intelligent decision support system, integrating machine learning and optimisation algorithms for re-engineering the order fulfilment process in warehouses and distribution centers under the e-commerce era. With deep collaboration with industry partners, the system was integrated into an existing logistics order handling system and was successfully deployed into a number of logistics service providers based in Hong Kong and the Greater Bay area. Backed by empirical research results, the system won the Certificate of Merit in the Best Business Solution (Application) Category of the Hong Kong ICT Award 2016.

In addition to the public recognition, his research outputs have been published in renowned journals, such as European Journal of Operational Research, Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review, International Journal of Production Economics, International Journal of Production Research, IEEE Transactions on Engineering Management, among others. He has authored book series, including Progress in Economics Research and Managerial Strategies and Solutions for Business Success in Asia. He is developing a strong pipeline of manuscripts for top-tier journals, such as Transportation Research Part B: Methodological, Production and Operations Management, Journal of Operations Management, and etc. He is currently a Section Editor of the Encyclopedia of Operations Management, an Associate Editor of International Journal of Engineering Business Management, an editorial board member of Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review. He also serves as a reviewer for various internationally excellent journals like Journal of Operations Management, Transportation Research Part E: Logistics and Transportation Review, Annuals of Operations Research, International Journal of Production Research, etc.

Currently, Eric’s research focuses on (1) e-commerce logistics and transportation management, and (2) the impact of digital (and AI) transformation on global supply chains. He is particularly interested in developing methodologies and integrating data analytical tools into the design of decision-support solutions to facilitate industry practitioners in transforming their existing business in the digital era.
