The Brett Centre for Entrepreneurship (BCfE) held its final Entrepreneurs Monthly Meet-up (EMM) of the academic year on 17 June, bringing together students, local founders and members of Liverpool’s entrepreneurship community for an evening of discussion and networking.
Hosted by Richard Leighton, BCfE’s Entrepreneur-in-Residence, and delivered in partnership with universities and colleges across Liverpool, the EMM series takes place at different venues throughout the year, with each session focusing on a specific theme and helping to promote collaboration and knowledge exchange within the local entrepreneurship ecosystem.
The latest EMM session used an “Ask the Entrepreneurs” format, giving attendees the chance to put questions directly to a panel of experienced founders:
- Carmel Dickinson, founder of Worthy Consultancy, which supports underrepresented founders to start and grow their businesses through practical advice and mentoring
- Ngunan Adamu, a BBC presenter and producer, and founder of social enterprise iWoman, which focuses on empowering women and communities through media and training
- Liam Marshall, a writer and creative facilitator who runs Liam Marshall Creative, supporting individuals and organisations with storytelling, writing and creative development
The discussion covered topics such as building confidence, managing uncertainty in the early stages of a business, developing a personal brand and staying motivated through challenges. Panellists shared practical advice alongside examples from their own experiences.
This collaborative approach showcased the strength of our local education network and created engaging spaces for connection, learning, and innovation in entrepreneurship for both students and local founders.
Participant Kevin Vincent, MSc student in AI for Digital Business at the University of Liverpool, commented after the event, “A really engaging event, and a useful reminder that entrepreneurship is not just about having an idea. It is about making decisions, protecting relationships, managing risk, and staying consistent long enough for the business to mature. Thank you to the Richard Leighton and team for organising the event, and to Carmel Dickinson, Ngunan Adamu, and Liam Marshall for sharing their advice.”
The EMM series continues next academic year.
