International Business Festival arrives in Liverpool

The University of Liverpool is taking part in the UK’s biggest business event, the 2018 International Business Festival, which arrives in the city today.
Promising an ambitious programme focused around nine high-growth industry themed days, the festival is a key government supported initiative to rebalance the economy and achieve UK export and investment targets.
Up to 30,000 international delegates are expected to attend the festival, which runs from 12-28 June at the Exhibition Centre Liverpool on the city's waterfront.
University of Liverpool staff will be supporting the festival as exhibitors, panel experts and through unique University-led events.
Digital Revolution
On 14 June the University’s Heseltine Institute and the Combined Authority are co-hosting Skills and the digital economy in the Liverpool City Region. This seminar will discuss the digital revolution in the region and why it is important. It will also ask which skills are needed in the digital economy, whether the region has these skills, and how a skills gap might be filled.
Supply Chain Management
On 20 June the University’s Agility Centre is hosting a session on Developing strategies and solutions for successful supply chain management. This session will focus on how resources and skills can be developed across technology-enhanced social and business networks to improve productivity, responsiveness and resilience, including how the Agility Centre’s research power can offer support.
On the same day, the University’s Centre for the Study of International Slavery will be looking at Supply chains, transparency and modern slavery: beyond compliance. Professor Alex Balch will present the latest evidence on what businesses are doing in their statements on modern slavery and how some are choosing to go beyond the minimum obligations – using the issue to rejuvenate the ethical identity/health of their business.
Life Sciences Day
The Centre of Excellence in Infectious Diseases Research (CEIDR), a partnership between the University and Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, has partnered with the festival for International Health & Life Sciences Day on 26 June. The day will celebrate life-changing advances in the science of infection, investigate how technology is giving greater access in health and augmenting humans, and explore how business and the health sector are working together to create change.
