We are excited to announce that the University of Liverpool in London is a member of the Culture Mile Network – an initiative that aims to create a vibrant cultural area in the Square Mile, London.

Over the next 10 to 15 years, Culture Miles’ partners will transform the area between Farringdon to Moorgate, offering a range of activities, including art installations, a community garden, an outdoor programme and events.

The five core Culture Mile partners are:

  • City of London Corporation
  • Barbican
  • Guildhall School of Music and Drama
  • London Symphony Orchestra
  • Museum of London

As part of the Culture Mile Network, the University will play a role in realising the ambitions of Culture Mile, alongside the five core partners. We hope that this relationship will provide exciting opportunities for our students and staff.

Catherine McGuinness, Policy Chairman at the City of London Corporation, said: “We are redefining the City of London, so that the Square Mile becomes known and admired as much for being a world-class destination, as for its position as a leading global financial centre.

“Culture has been at its heart for centuries, alongside commerce, and now more than ever, arts and culture are vital to the UK economy and our position in the world.”

A design competition has been launched to speculate on the architectural and design future of the Culture Mile. The competition relates to the concept ‘Take the Inside Out’, asking the question ‘Can you identify and/or opportunities within the Culture Mile where we can bring ‘the inside outside’?
