Professor Rachel Bearon

Professor Rachel Bearon

I am Professor in the maths department having joined the University in 2005. My research is quite broad; I apply mathematics to a range of biological problems, from the swimming behaviour of single-celled algae to probing how cells behave in low-oxygen environments.

I have been inspired by many role-models who have encouraged me to have confidence in my abilities, and I try to follow their example in my interactions with students. With appropriate support and a willingness to compromise (and coffee), I do think it is possible to achieving a good work-life balance, and so I feel very privileged to be an academic and a mum to 4 young children.
