Gita Sedghi in Chemistry

Dr Gita Sedghi

I am a Senior Lecturer (Teaching & Scholarship) and MSc Programme Director in the Chemistry Department at the University of Liverpool. I have a BSC in Chemical Engineering and a PhD in Chemistry. During my PhD I published in top scientific journals, including Nature Nanotechnology. Upon completion I decided to follow a Teaching & Scholarship path, since I always was passionate about teaching.

I am engaged in pedagogical research and teaching & learning innovation for chemistry undergraduate programmes. I was awarded HEA funding to perform research in the areas of internationalisation, peer assisted learning and pre lab activities. As a result, I implemented a framework to enhance integration between home and international students in the Chemistry Department.

Also, I implemented pre lab activities across our first and second year undergraduate lab courses. I coordinate the peer assisted learning/peer mentoring scheme in the Department to support first year and international students. I won the Faculty of Science & Engineering Teaching & Learning Award due to my contributions to the teaching and learning undergraduate students.

I am engaged with the wider university community outside the Chemistry Department including Athena SWAN and the University Wellbeing project.
