University recognised at city business awards
The University of Liverpool has been recognised for its business support services at an annual awards ceremony.
The University’s Technology Directorate was awarded the Best Business Enabler category at the 15th City of Liverpool Business Awards, which took place at Sefton Park Palm House on 12 July.
Dr Duncan Robertson, head of the Technology Directorate, collected the award and said: “The University has a long and proud history of enabling business in the city and this award recognises how much we contribute to its economic growth and development.
"The business environment in Liverpool is entering a new and exciting phase. Initiatives to help businesses develop new ideas, such as our SME pump-priming scheme, along with the growth of The Knowledge Quarter mean Liverpool is a vibrant and creative place to do business. The future has never looked better.”
A pioneering social enterprise founded by two University of Liverpool scientists also picked up an award on the night. Farm Urban, which develops and tests the most efficient ways to grow food in urban environments, won the Environmental & Sustainability Award.
The Awards were organised by Downtown in Business, in association with Epica Health & Safety.
Downtown in Business CEO and Chairman Frank McKenna said: “The quality of business leadership in Liverpool never ceases to amaze me, and events like The City of Liverpool Business Awards are designed to recognise just that.”
There were 17 awards in total throughout the evening, with other winners including Liverpool Football Club and Knowledge Quarter Liverpool.
