Research Interest 1
Over the past couple of decades, I've worked to establish links between the central neuroanatomy and peripheral metabolism involved in disorders of energy balance, including obesity and diabetes. This involved mapping brain areas involved in the regulation of feeding and measuring whole-body glucose homeostasis, using obese and diabetic rodent models. More recently my interests focused on the role of macronutrients, particularly dietary fatty acids, in neurogenesis and meal patterning. As a staff member in the School of Veterinary Science, this work expanded to include examinations of rodent scent communication and CNS control of reproduction in sheep. I now work with clinical colleagues to survey the role of the client in companion animal obesity.
