Professor Gregory Lip has been awarded the 2023 Distinguished Scientist (Clinical) by the American College of Cardiology (ACC) in honour of his contributions to the cardiovascular profession.

He was presented with the award at the recent ACC’s 72nd Annual Scientific Session in New Orleans which brought together cardiologists and cardiovascular specialists from around the globe to share their research.

Professor Lip is one of the foremost experts on atrial fibrillation (the most common heart rhythm disorder) and his efforts to define the pathophysiology, risk factors, optimal treatments and quality care have made a major impact on clinical practice.

He is also the Director of the Liverpool Centre for Cardiovascular Science (LCCS), a research collaboration of clinical and academic experts from University of Liverpool, Liverpool John Moores University and Liverpool Heart and Chest Hospital.

“It is an honour to recognise Gregory Y. H. Lip, MD, FACC, with the Distinguished Scientist Award-Clinical Domain,” said ACC President Edward T. A. Fry.

“Professor Lip has made exceptional contributions to the field of cardiovascular medicine, helping to further the ACC’s mission to transform cardiovascular care and improve heart health.”

Professor Lip said: “I am most delighted and truly humbled to receive this honour from the ACC. It is very nice to be recognised and appreciated, and this award is a big tribute to the many colleagues in the LCCS research family, who have made this happen.”

Professor Lip was one of various 2023 Distinguished Award winners from different categories honoured by the ACC. Recipients were nominated by their peers and then selected by the ACC Awards Committee.
