Postgraduate Research Day Success!
June saw the return of face to face conferences for the School of Dentistry, which hosted its annual ‘Postgraduate Research Day’ on Thursday 9th June. After two years of remote and hybrid conferences, the research day gave postgraduates and early career researchers working across the school an excellent opportunity to present their research to a wider audience.
The event marked the first internal conference since the publication of the school’s new research strategy last year and a range of excellent presentations demonstrated strong collaborations with researchers within ILCaMS, as well as links with other faculty’s and NHS trusts such as Alder Hey Children’s Hospital. In addition, the School of Dentistry welcomed the president and secretary of the Liverpool Dental Alumni Association, who were proud sponsors of the prizes for best presentations on the day.
Miss Emma Morgan, an NIHR Academic Clinical Fellow at the school took first prize for her research presentation on the ‘Development of a youth oral health advisory group within Alder Hey Children’s Hospital and the School of Dentistry.’ Emma commented:
“The research day was a great opportunity for early career researchers to showcase their hard work. It was great to learn about the breadth of ongoing research and the scope of collaboration within the University. I was delighted to win a prize and I thank the dental school and the Liverpool Dental Alumni Association for their support.”
Second prize went to Mr Abdul Rahman Hamza Aly, a Doctorate in Dental Science (Endodontics) student for his presentation titled ‘Antibacterial endodontic irrigants and Enterrococcus faecalis biofilm variability.’ The school wishes to congratulate all those that presented.
Professor Sondos Albadri , Vice Dean for Research and Postgraduate studies commented “We have made significant progress in building the capacity and capability for dental research in Liverpool. This research day marks the success of our postgraduate programmes as an integral part of our research strategy.”
Dr Nick Longridge, Clinical Lecturer in Restorative Dentistry said: “We all know the huge amount of time and effort that goes into these research projects and the lack of recent conferences has reduced the opportunities for our postgraduates to gain recognition and increase the impact of their work. Today was a significant milestone for all of our postgraduates, who were able to develop their presentation skills, learn about the wider impact of research and network with colleagues from across the Merseyside region.”
