The North West British Society of Criminology Seminar Series 2016-17, in conjunction with University of Liverpool’s International Criminological Research Unit (ICRU) and the BSC National Victims Network, present a Day Symposium on: Violence, Culture and Victimhood

The purpose of this symposium is to take up the challenges posed by different ways of understanding violence and victimisation within the lexicon of victimological concerns, and to raise questions regarding our exposure to them as bystanders, academics and ‘witnesses’. Our intention is to begin more deeply excavating some lightly toiled ground within this arena and to raise some instrumental questions about whether or not there is indeed a case to pursue a specifically ‘cultural’ dimension to this sub-discipline. Key questions are: what this might look like, and what its implications might there be for our theoretical, empirical and policy-related understanding of violence, culture and victimhood.
In order to further these aims this symposium brings together key speakers from different disciplinary backgrounds and offers a call for papers, particularly from postgraduate and early career researchers, along the following themes:
