About the event

WIP is a twelve month program of personal and professional development, a highlight of which will be eight weeks in the United States, including a one week orientation in Washington, a one week summit in New York City, and six weeks in either Washington or New York. During this time students gain invaluable practical experience by completing internships in either US government, media, business or non-profit organisations.

The Program’s purpose is to develop the skills and networks of future leaders for Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland, and it welcomes students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines. On completion of the Program, students join an active Alumni community, who are involved in academia, business, media and politics. Indeed, the current Taoiseach of Ireland, Leo Varadkar, is a WIP Alumnus, having been part of the WIP Class of 2000..

For more information about the Washington Ireland Program, please go to http://wiprogram.org. WIP is open for applications from students who consider Northern Ireland or the Republic of Ireland to be their home, are aged 18+; and studying full-time at British or Irish Universities. The application process is due to open late October 2018 and close at the end of November/early December 2018.

The Executive Director of WIP, Mr Bryan Patten, will be visiting the Institute of Irish Studies on Wednesday 31 October 2018 to give students a unique insight into the program.

Create a calendar file
