Social Programme

As well as our flexible academic programme, we want to ensure you get the full Liverpool and UK experience during your time with us.

If you are studying with us on-campus, you are invited to take part in a range of social and cultural activities, including a one-day trip in each 3-week programme.  Examples of the activities on offer are:

  • Coach trip to the Lake District and Wordsworth's Grasmere, which includes:
    • Visit to 'The lovliest spot man hath ever found" as written by Wordsworth.
    • Lunch at Grasmere Village, with sightseeing at various Wordsworth locations.
    • Visit to Rydal Hall Gardens, with Wordsworth's house next door.
  • During your first weekend and week with us:
    • A city tour of Liverpool with a free drink
    • An evening meal at one of the city's amazing restaurants with your fellow ISS students

ISS students will also have access to the social activities organised by the Halls Experience Team, designed for everyone living in University accommodation.

Of course, you are not limited to the activities organised by us. There is so much to see and do in Liverpool, so you won't be short of activities during your time with us. Head to our City Life page for help on exploring the city.

If you are studying with us online, you will also have access to a comprehensive social programme, designed to help you meet your fellow students, network, and get the authentic University of Liverpool experience while you study with us.

For our online students, we will have a dedicated ISS Teams channel, with daily cultural and social content across the 6 weeks of the programme. The aim is to give you the Liverpool experience without needing to be on campus with us, as well as helping you connect with your fellow students.

We will be hosting talks on a variety of interesting topics with specialists every week, as well as curating a number of external online events that you can also attend for free at the University, within Liverpool and the UK.

Here are some examples of talks we hosted on the 2021 ISS:

  • The Rise, Fall and Renaissance of Liverpool
  • Exploring Liverpool Culture, from Liver Birds to Beatles, Nelson to Mo Salah
  • Identity and Language Poetry Workshop

As well as your Teams channel filled with events, discussions and networking, you will also have a dedicated online certificate ceremony at the end of your course, to celebrate your success and to wish you luck for your future endeavours.

I could choose many words to describe that experience but one is enough, "opportunity". Opportunity to enter in a world that could join education and enjoyment all the time. Opportunity to experience unforgettable new places, new people and a new culture. Today I work at British Council Brazil, I owe a good part of this success to the International Summer School.
