We will try to place all students in their chosen module classes. However please be aware that modules which do not recruit enough students may be withdrawn. In rare unforseen circumstances, modules may also be cancelled.
On your application form, you will be asked to select your first and second module choices in each block. Should your chosen module become full, or is cancelled/withdrawn we will then allocate your second choice.
Entry Requirements
To apply for the International Summer School, we expect the following:
- You will be a student at undergraduate or postgraduate level at a university worldwide, or have completed an undergraduate degree at a university worldwide.
- You will be aged 18 or over on the first day of the course.
English Language Requirement
If English is your second language, you must have a minimum level of English language equivalent to IELTS 6.0/CEFR B2/Upper intermediate or above.
We are able to accept a range of exam certificates as proof of your English language level. If you do not have a recent certificate, we are able to send you a short online test.
Our Approach to Teaching
The method of study on ISS might be a bit different to what you are used to. We believe students learn best by doing, so tutors encourage participation at each stage of the lesson. The sharing of ideas through pair work and group work is an important part of the course.
Contact Hours and Self-Directed Hours
Depending on your choice of modules, the programme offers between 8-12 hours’ tuition per week. In addition, it is expected that you will spend between 38-42 study hours per module outside of the classroom contact hours on activities including assigned reading, optional reading of areas of personal interest, homework tasks, web research and preparation for assessment.
A Typical Summer School Timetable
Within your pre-arrival information you will receive the document ISS Timetable 2022, providing you with your schedule. The schedule may still be subject to change and information regarding field trips or visits will be provided to you by your Module Leader. Classes will usually take place Monday to Thursday mornings. Some modules may have a session on the in the afternoon or on a Friday.
