University of Georgia Athens, USA

In 2009, Liverpool invested in the development of a strategic partnership with the University of Georgia Athens, following a number of successful projects in biological sceinces. the partnership is designed to be broad based and incorporates staff and student mobility across all discipline areas. Since 2009 the number of research collaborations has grown to over 18 and includes joint programmes in the areas of genetics, materials science, infectious disease and veterinary science, bioinformatics and social sciences. In the last two years this has led to $7 million of research funds being received by the partnership. A pump priming programme is operated jointly by the two universities to catalyse collaborations supported by visiting PhD exchange programme.
