Aims

Students to have an understanding of physical principles of radiation. Critically evaluate principles of radiation legislation and safety. Be able to appraise underlying principles of medical physics technologies.


Learning Outcomes

(1) LO1 - Apply integrated knowledge of the physical principles underlying radiation physics.

(2) LO2 - Describe the biological effects of radiation.

(3) LO3 - Critically evaluate the principles and legislation relating to radiation safety.


Syllabus

 

Biological effects of ionising radiation, radiation risk and public perception, radiation safety regulations, ionising radiation, basics of x-ray imaging and technology including computer tomography, basis of nuclear medicine imaging and technology, basis of radiotherapy, basis of magnetic resonance imaging and technology, basis of ultrasound imaging and technology, image quality in IT and medical physics
