Aims

To produce a preliminary and preparatory essay based on the student's area of research.

To define the scope, methodology and boundaries of the student's research project.

To develop the student's skills of critical writing through the development of a coherent and appropriate academic voice.


Learning Outcomes

Syllabus

 

This module forms a core component of the MRes Philosophy programme. It acts as a preparatory module for the final dissertation undertaken on PHIL714. As such, the specific academic content will vary according to the individual research project and will be determined by the student in collaboration with his or her supervisor(s). Tutorials take place either face-to-face or through virtual means such as Microsoft Teams or Zoom. There is no set reading for the module, but students will be expected to acquire and demonstrate detailed knowledge of primary materials and existing scholarship relevant to their areas of research.


Teaching and Learning Strategies

Teaching Method 1 - Tutorial
Description: Individual tutorials with the student's supervisor(s).

The majority of teaching will be delivered face to face on campus. Online delivery will be used to complement the on campus delivery and where technology affords a better learning experience.
