Teaching and Learning Strategies

Teaching method: Lectures
Description: Lectures are held in the Music Hub within the department of Music. Lectures provide background information on Live Sound technologies, related audio and electronics theory and Live Sound production. The lectures explain why particular equipment and processes are used and how they are implemented. They will also explain live sound system design and installation, both fixed and portable systems, and how these relate to acoustics and performance space design.
Attendance recorded: Yes
Notes: The lectures focus on audio, electronics and acoustics theory related topics as well as design matters

Teaching method: Workshops
Description: In small group of 6-7, students are given practical instruction on live sound system set-up and operation. Working with group members and performance students, workshop will be used to practice sound check, front of house mixing and monitor mixing. Communications systems, best practice and performan ce etiquette will also be covered.
Attendance recorded: No

Self-directed learning: As well as reading around the subject, once students have reached the required level of competence, they will be expected to book the Hub performance space for system practice. This will be required to cooperate and liaise with performance students in order to practice their live sound set-up and engineering skills.

The majority of teaching will be delivered face-to-face on campus. Online delivery will be used to complement the on-campus delivery and where technology affords a better learning experience
