Aims |

To develop accuracy and fluency in notation. To realise practical knowledge of instruments in relation to different orchestrational tasks. To refine and expand knowledge of 20th/21st-century styles, languages and approaches. To develop self-critical skills. |
Learning Outcomes |

• Timbre, loudness and basic acoustics for orchestral instruments • Strategies for distributing materials amongst players • Partitioning an ensemble • In-depth analysis of orchestrational techniques in Stravinsky’s The Firebird • Techniques and strategies for notating orchestral scores • Animating orchestra textures • Instruments as soloists, instruments as characters. |
