Aims

To gain conceptual understanding of contextual issues in pop performance.

To further explore the development of tropes in pop performance via case studies.

To develop critical independent research skills.

Syllabus

 

This module examines various issues relating to popular music performance, in an attempt to better understand how music has resonated with audiences, aiming for a more informed appreciation of popular music in all its forms. The specific course content will be informed by both the student cohort and the lecturer, but may include such topics as authenticity, politics, globalisation, technology, pop music teaching, pop analysis, and media and marketing.


Teaching and Learning Strategies

Teaching Method 1 - Lecture (60 minutes, 12 weeks)
Description: Lectures introduce core concepts and course material
Teaching Method 2 - Seminar (60 minutes, 12 weeks)
Description: Directed research (60 minutes, 12 weeks)

The majority of teaching will be delivered face to face on campus. Online delivery will be used to complement the on-campus delivery and where technology affords a better learning experience.
