Aims

• To develop the skills required to compose and produce compelling screen music
• To gain an understanding of current practices, trends, technologies, and media
• To explore filmmaking methods and storytelling strategies

Syllabus

 

Topics covered in this module may include:
• Music editing
• Composing to a brief
• Narrative scoring strategies
• Professional scoring and filmmaking practices
• The relationship between music, sound, visuals, and narrative.

Resources will be made available to students through Canvas, UoL’s Learning Management System. Students will be expected to source supplementary resources to develop their skills outside of contact hours. Students will be expected to produce practical work outside of the scheduled teaching hours.


Teaching and Learning Strategies

Lectures will be held in the computer labs. Concepts and compositional strategies will be introduced with time allocated for hands-on practice. Workshops will be supervised practice time in the computer labs where staff help, and feedback will be available for the weekly exercises. There will also be time devoted to class presentation, discussion, and peer feedback of student work in progress. The majority of teaching will be delivered face to face on campus. Online delivery will be used to complement the on-campus delivery and where technology affords a better learning experience.
