This Year in Industry in Law placement module will provide the students with the opportunity to learn and practice a range of intellectual, interpersonal, and technical skills which are relevant in the world of law and practice, broadly defined.

The Year in Industry in Law placement module will encourage creative and critical thinking and provide students with the skills to adapt and respond positively to changing circumstances.

The Year in Industry in Law placement module will enhance academic learning in the final year of study.

The Year in Industry in Law placement module will support students in their continuing professional development.

The Year in Industry in Law placement experience could potentially contribute to the required qualifying work experience under the Solicitor's Qualifying Examination (SQE).

Teaching Method 1 - Field Work
Description: The placement year is a minimum 40 week placement in an industrial, commercial, or public sector or third sector setting relevant to the study of law, broadly understood. The assessments in this module will be completed by the 2nd semester assessment period.

Placements will be arranged by the School of Law and Social Justice academic and PSS teams at venues which are accessible to the individual student and appropriate to their interests and development needs. In the event that the placement is cut short, every effort will be made to transfer the back onto the M100 3 year degree programme, provided it is not too late into the 1st semester. If it is deemed that too much of the term has been missed (e.g., more than 3-4 weeks), students will be required to take a period of suspension until the following academic year. Similarly, should a student leave a placement, the above will be applicable.
Each student will have a member of academic staff assigned as placement tutor. The tutor will advise students on their assessment requirements and day to day work related issues. Any issues of a more serious nature which arise during the course of the placement will be referred to the module leader.

Each student will be contacted by ZOOM/Teams at least three times during key stages during the placement. Each student will normally receive two placement visits by their tutor. Students and tutors will be provided with a suitable handbook to set out their key rights and responsibilities under the placement scheme.
