The majority of teaching will be delivered face-to-face on campus. Online delivery will be used to complement the on-campus delivery and where technology affords a better learning experience.

Lecture
Key research methods, approaches and skills in specialised translation will be delivered through plenary lectures for all students on the module (shared also with CHIN514 and MODL534).

Seminar
Language-specific seminars (for Arabic, French, German, Italian and Spanish) will cover a range of specialised translation tasks which students are expected to prepare in advance and be ready to discuss in class.

Workshop
Two two-hour workshops will deepen students’ understanding of professional skills and the industry, for example covering training in computer-aided translation technology (such as Trados) and translation-related skills such as terminology preparation and management; project management; or translating for institutions such as the EU/UN.

In the seminars, students will conduct practical translation in specialised fields including areas of health and medicine, law, science and technology. In the two 2-hour workshops will cover topics such as computer-aided translation technology (e.g. memoQ) and translation-related skills sought by the industry, such as post-editing and terminology preparation and management.
