Aims

To equip final year students with sophisticated expressive skills in the area of formal text production on an advanced level in a variety of genres;

To provide translations skills in different styles, registers and genres;

To develop grammar skills to an advanced level;

To develop advanced listening skills;

To develop speaking and presentation skills.

To deepen interpreting competence.

Learning Outcomes

Teaching and Learning Strategies

Teaching will be delivered on campus.

Teaching method: seminars.

The module is taught three hours per week except in tutorial week. The seminars consist of three weekly
language classes.

Oral: one hour concentrating on advanced oral skills in a business context.

Textarbeit: one hour on writing skills in a variety of genres and translation, one hour in translating skills in a variety of genres from German into English and English into German.

Syllabus

Students will learn how to write specific text-types each of which demands a particular form, style, register and vocabulary. Students will continue to develop their translating and basic interpreting skills. The module also tackles diverse points of higher sentence grammar and students will read extensive texts of high standard language level. Finally, students will improve listening comprehension and speaking skills.
