To equip final year students with sophisticated expressive skills in the area of formal text production on an advanced level in a variety of genres;

Teaching will be delivered face-to-face on campus.

Teaching method: seminars.
The module is taught in four hours per week except in tutorial week. One hour Textarbeit in German, one hour in
translation, one hour speaking and one hour listening class.

Textarbeit:
One hour is dedicated to the comprehension, analysis and especially production of texts in different genres in German. Students will learn how to write specific text-types, each of which demands a particular form, style, register and vocabulary.

Translation:
One hour is dedicated to advanced translation skills. Texts will cover a variety of genres and styles. Students will be required to produce and submit translations of specified passages in a variety of genres without the aid of a dictionary and to explain and defend their rendering in class. The module also tackles diverse points of higher sentence grammar. Speaking class: Students will choose a topic that they present and debate in clas s. they will also support debates when peers present their topics.

Listening (and speaking) class:
Students will also improve and practice listening comprehension both in classes and through independent work with audio-visual and audio material and converse on current topics often inspired by a video.

Translation will cover various genres of advanced level and students will do practice basic interpreting. Advanced grammar subjects will be tackled. Students will write extensive pieces of work in various genres and learn to speak in various registers and in various situations.
