Students will be assessed 50% by their host university and 50% by UoL. They have to attend 20 to 25 ECTSs of which the top 15 credits will count towards their grade. At UoL, they will have to submit one coursework assignment.

(LO1) When finishing MODL215, students will have successfully fulfilled the learning outcomes of the language and the content modules they have completed at their host university.

(LO2) By successfully adapting to the system of study at their host university, students will have demonstrated that they have acquired the academic skills and competence to study abroad.

(LO3) By successfully adapting to everyday life outside the UK, students will have demonstrated that they have acquired the inter-cultural competence to live abroad.

Study Placement:
Independent language learning, allowing students to follow modules in the target language at their host university and interact successfully in the foreign environment, constitutes an indispensable aspect of MODL215. Language modules taken at levels 1 and 2 at Liverpool, will have equipped students with the necessary skills to improve their command of the target language independently while abroad.

In their second year at Liverpool, students attend sessions preparing them for their third year of study abroad. These sessions include: (a) instructions about all relevant details in respect to the Study pathway at a foreign university, (b) a peer mentoring scheme meeting at which Year 2 students, by establishing direct contact with final year peer mentors, can learn about any aspect of the year abroad experience, (c) pre-departure briefing meetings at which outgoing students are instructed by staff, for example, about the format of learning and teaching at their Erasmus partner universities, the selection of appropriate modules or the completion of the Erasmus Learning Agreement.

When making their module choices at their host university, students are required to register for at least one language module. The MLC Erasmus Policy provides further details about the specific profile of this compulsory language module in a particular country.

While doing MODL215, students are required to stay in close contact with the relevant subject area Erasmus coordinator at Liverpool in order to ensure that any potential problem in relation to learning and teaching issues is detected and addressed at an early stage.

The syllabi for the various modules each student selects while away as an Exchange student are set up by the convenors in charge at the host university and counts for 50% of the assessment. The other 50% are assessment components set by LCF. It provides students with the opportunity to reflect on their personal development, on their intercultural learning as well as on linguistic or cultural or political issues they come across at their placement.
