Develop further skills acquired in ITAL256 to enable students to communicate confidently and effectively in spoken and written Italian in a range of formal and informal contexts, including working environments;

Consolidate existing knowledge of Italian language including advanced and sophisticated structures;

Enable students to develop further their own learning strategies and fosters a reflective approach as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively;

Encourage students to explore aspects of contemporary Italian culture and to reflect on some current Italian issues through the medium of Italian in preparation of the Year Abroad.

The majority of teaching will be delivered face-to-face on campus. Online delivery will be used to complement the on-campus delivery and where technology affords a better learning experience.

Seminar:
The module is taught by two weekly language classes, one of which is dedicated to grammar / syntax, one language laboratory session and one oral class. Consistent use of the target language, the personal contribution of students and a collaborative approach are important elements of the module. Students' preferences are sought when choosing topics on aspects of Italian culture. A good range of supporting multimedia facilities are located either in the Modern Languages Resource Centre or in the Sydney Jones Library.

Tutorial:
Tutorials are periodically arranged to discuss performance in tests and coursework and to provide add itional support where necessary. Introductory notes to the module include information and guidance on semester programme, weekly schedule, workload and assessment. The module is intensive and students are expected to attend all sessions, to hand in regular directed work, to take active part in all sessions and to follow up classes with further reading and listening activities.

This module will examine contemporary topics in Italian life and culture, with a rage that may include: Gender issues in the Italian language,Italian politics and society, Studying and working in Italy, Immigration and emigration. Aspects of grammar may also include elements of Italian syntax.
