Aims

To introduce students to current debates in film cultures from around the world;

To analyse global platforms of distribution and film industries in context.


Learning Outcomes

(LO1) Understand and explain global film cultures in relation to style, content, industrial organization, production and distribution.

(LO2) Synthesise and apply key concepts in contemporary film theory.

(LO3) Demonstrate an understanding of the geopolitical and industrial developments in contemporary film cultures.

(LO4) Demonstrate analytical, theoretical and historical understanding of a range of concerns and phenomena in cinema and in film studies.

(S1) Communication (written and visual).

(S2) Reading and critical analysis and synthesis of written material – academic and journalistic.

(S3) Digital skills – recording, editing, captioning.

Teaching and Learning Strategies

The majority of teaching will be delivered face-to-face on campus. Online delivery will be used to complement the on-campus delivery and where technology affords a better learning experience. Teaching methods will include:

Seminars
The module will be taught via weekly two-hour seminars and strategies employed will include presentations by teaching staff and students, group discussions, and small group work.

Self-directed learning will involve film screenings, seminar preparation and individual research.
