Learning Outcomes

Teaching and Learning Strategies

This module is taught through 24 hours of general language classes, divided between synchronous and asynchronous learning activities, as necessary. These include listening comprehension classes in the language laboratory, reading comprehension exercises and grammar teaching and practice. Students have a chance to consolidate and practise the structures and vocabulary acquired in conversation, discussions, short presentations and short writing and note taking exercises. The classes will be taught mostly in Chinese. Students are expected to attend all classes, to take part in weekly activities, to hand in homework and the portfolios on time and to work through the assigned exercises independently. The module offers much accompanying material, including online resources, which can be used for independent study at home or in the library. Regular feedback forms an integral part of the module.

The majority of teaching will be delivered face-to-face on campus. Online delivery will be used to complement the on-campus delivery and where technology affords a better learning experience.



Elementary module in Chinese language: grammar, translation and written and spoken communication. The syllabus can be found in the module handbook which can be accessed through Canvas. A weekly schedule for the module will be issued at the beginning of the semester.
