To introduce a variety of transferable skills;

To build group skills – through regular weekly meetings and the preparation of the group project;

To introduce the skills relevant to the types of employment to which history graduates aspire i.e. team-working, interpersonal skills, self-confidence, oral/visual presentation.

Eleven podcasts will be made available, which cover the skills required to complete the module successfully. Podcasts will include information on working as a group, the research process, working with primary sources, and on communicating the past through different mediums. Students will meet with their seminar group for nine scheduled 1-hour meetings during the semester. Groups may meet more often if they wish. Tutors will be present at six of these meetings. This module is designed to develop and test students’ skills in working independently and collaboratively. The project tutor is there to facilitate and support the group as it carries out research and designs the final project.

The majority of teaching will be delivered face-to-face on campus. Online delivery will be used to complement the on-campus delivery and where technology affords a better learning experience.

Podcast:
The podcasts provide a framework for the module, introduce the main themes, concepts and approaches, and provide the context for students to work on their group projects.

Seminar:
These focus on detailed group work towards the assessment, and on problem-solving and question and answer sessions with staff and fellow students.

Presentation seminars:
These give an opportunity for students to hear and discuss the work of other groups, while giving their own assessed presentations and receiving feedback from staff and fellow students.
