Week 1: Organisations and IT Topics: Evlaluate different forms of organisation; Understand how organisations are supported by IT; Appreciate the internal and environmental factors that lead to the conception of a new IT project.
Week 2: Architecture Topics: Understand the organising principles of IT systems (architecture); Evaluate technology strategies; Explore the dynamics of technological change.
Week 3: Development Topics: Critically assess IT development and the role of the project manager; Review and contrast the different standard ways of developing an IT solution; Analyse so
me of the drivers and constraints in IT development. Week 4: Planning and Resourcing Topics: Understand the importance of project planning; Discuss resourcing and estimating; Evaluate planning tools. Week 5: Soft Skills Topics: Appreciate the behaviour of people in organisations; Understand the basics of leading and motivating project teams; Develop a crirical understanding of conflict and negotiation. Week 6: Risk Topics: Critically discuss risk management and analysis approaches; Understand the principles of change management.
Week 7: Monitoring and Con trol Topics: Understand and discuss the role of monitoring and control in project management; Appreciate the main features and benefits of quality management.
Week 8: Evaluation and Strategy Topics: Critically discuss the issues involved in evaluationg the outcome of a project; Position the IT project in its strategic context - programmes, portfolios and the project management office. |
