Aims

The aim of this module is to provide students with experience of working in an industrial environment, to gain new laboratory and soft skills.


Learning Outcomes

The students will improve their general transferable skills including

-effective communication

-time management

-ability to self-learn

-taking responsibility

-team-working etc.

The students will learn new practical skills as appropriate to the placement


Teaching and Learning Strategies

Work Placement -

This is the minimum time a student would have to spend on a placement for it to qualify as a year in Industry. This is equivalent to 31 weeks of full time emplyment without allowance for leave etc.


Syllabus

Whilst working for the company, the student will be expected to carry out a project as determined by the industrial supervisor. The student will 

-learn key lab skills and techniques as appropriate for the placement

-learn key transferable skills (team-working, taking responsibilty, time management etc) as appropriate for the placement

-learn new chemistry based on the requirements of the placement

The skills will be learnt at the company and developed over the year''s placement
