Aims

This module aims to:

Equip students with in-depth knowledge and skills necessary to formulate and implement strategies that enable organisations to compete successfully in the international scene;

Provide students with theoretical knowledge of international business while critically analysing and evaluating global markets, with a focus on developing strategic pathways for achieving international success;

Provide an understanding of core strategy concepts and provide insights into the essential strategic areas of a business and how these can be effectively designed and developed to succeed internationally.


Learning Outcomes

(LO1) Students will be able to critically appraise and design the international strategy aspects taught to the class, constructing insights on a variety of different strategy practices that businesses operate globally.

(LO2) Students will be able to analyse and synthesise academic literature and develop their abilities and awareness of study skills relevant to global strategies.

(LO3) Students will be able to deconstruct different topics of global strategy, specifically around how the knowledge portfolio of international strategies adapt and metamorphose under different conditions.

(LO4) Students will be able to utilise researched information and apply it on a management/ organisational scenario.

(LO5) Students will be able to formulate and critically assess the key concepts in strategy, ensuring they have a strong foundation for studying how organisations operate within the global economy.

(LO6) Students will be able to critically evaluate the roles played by various global strategy disciplines in developing organisational management in an international context and demonstrate an awareness of the strategic implications of international trade and cooperation.

(LO7) Students will be able to investigate and evaluate the strategy links between costing/ marketing/ operations/ logistics within an international context, by synthesising the information from the differing management disciplines.

(S1) Verbal and written communication
Students will develop their communication skills through group presentations as part of a group report and the case studies that will be presented in seminars every week.

(S2) Problem solving
Problem solving skills will be developed through exercises that require to solve realistic scenarios of international investments abroad.

(S3) Team work
Teamworking skills will be developed through engagement with group activities in seminars and the assessments.

(S4) International awareness
International awareness will be developed during class discussions on the global market and trends to approach viable investment solutions.

(S5) Commercial awareness
Commercial awareness will be developed during class discussions of the latest trends in the global strategy field to formulate the right timing and the location for investment.

(S6) Ethical awareness
Ethical awareness will be developed during class discussions and in preparing for assessments about the rules and regulations that exist in the global field of global strategy.


Teaching and Learning Strategies

Lectures:

Synchronous x 8 hours (2 hours x 4)
Asynchronous x 6 hours (1 hour x 6)

Seminars x 12 hours (2 hours x 6)

Self-directed learning x 174 hours

Students are expected to prepare for the lectures, seminars and assignments every week.
