Aims

This module aims to:

Provide a comprehensive insight into the complexities and dynamics of doing business throughout international boundaries;

Investigate global markets to explore the potential for growth in international investments;

Evaluate the impact of cultural, economic and political factors along with the necessary international business strategies that must be developed to succeed internationally;

Examine the challenges that must be addressed in this volatile international environment where multinational enterprises (MNEs) and small and medium enterprises (SMEs) operate, providing an in-depth view of international business opportunities worldwide.


Learning Outcomes

(LO1) Students will be able to demonstrate a critical appraisal of the international nature of business in the modern-day world, displaying emphasis and insight on differing practices in different international countries.

(LO2) Students will be able to evaluate academic literature on international business by applying synthesis and critique of foundational definitions, concepts and theories in international business and demonstrate them by communicating these ideas in verbal and written forms.

(LO3) Students will be able to critically appraise different topics in international business: knowledge portfolio of international expansions change when investing abroad.

(LO4) Students will be able to utilise researched information and apply the information gained to a management/ organisational scenario.

(LO5) Students will be able to synthesise and critique knowledge on the topics covered such that they have a sound foundation for level 7 study of how organisations operate within a global economy.

(LO6) Students will be able to critically evaluate the roles played by different management disciplines to facilitate organisations operating in an international context and demonstrate their awareness of the strategic implications of international trade/ cooperation

(LO7) Students will be able to evaluate the links between costing/ marketing/ operations/ logistics and strategy within an international context, by synthesising the information from the differing management disciplines.

(S1) International awareness
International awareness will be developed during class discussions on the global market and trends to approach viable investment solutions.

(S2) Communication skills
Students will develop their communication skills through group presentations as part of a group report and the case studies that will be presented in seminars every week.

(S3) Problem solving
Problem solving skills will be developed through exercises that require to solve realistic scenarios of international investments abroad.

(S4) Commercial awareness
Commercial awareness will be developed during class discussions of the latest trends in the global strategy field to formulate the right timing and the location for investment.

(S5) Team work
Teamworking skills will be developed through engagement with group activities in seminars and the assessments.

(S6) Ethical awareness
Ethical awareness will be cultivated through class discussions and assessment preparation, focusing on the ethical considerations, rules, and regulations that shape global strategy in international business.


Teaching and Learning Strategies

Lectures:

Seminars x 12 hours (2 hours x 6)

Self-directed learning x 174 hours
